Pain Management

Pain management begins with understanding the possible causes and impact of pain.

Understanding pain management

ReMD offers physician-led evaluation for musculoskeletal and injury-related pain. A discussion of symptoms, functional goals, prior treatments and medical history helps inform a personalized plan. Treatment options depend on clinical appropriateness and availability.

What to expect

During a visit, the physician may discuss the history of your symptoms, past treatment, relevant records, and any activity limitations. The examination and next steps depend on your medical needs.

To help prepare, bring a medication list, relevant imaging reports or test results if available, and any referral or authorization paperwork requested by the scheduling team.

This page is educational, not a diagnosis or individualized medical advice. If you have sudden severe weakness, new loss of bladder or bowel control, severe symptoms after trauma, or another emergency, seek emergency care.

Pain Management — Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common patient questions. Recommendations depend on your individual medical evaluation.

What happens at an initial pain medicine appointment?

The physician reviews your symptoms, pain pattern, medical history, medications, prior imaging and how pain affects work, sleep and daily function. A focused examination helps guide an individualized plan and whether additional testing is needed.

Can pain medicine help after a work or car accident injury?

Pain medicine may be part of recovery after an injury when symptoms persist or limit function. Evaluation helps identify possible muscle, joint or nerve-related causes; recommendations depend on findings and any claim or referral requirements.

Will I need an injection or procedure?

Not necessarily. Many care plans begin with education, activity adjustments, rehabilitation and appropriate medication options. Injections or procedures are considered only when clinically appropriate after discussing potential benefits, alternatives and risks.

Is botulinum toxin A an option for chronic migraine?

OnabotulinumtoxinA (BOTOX) is FDA-approved to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine, defined in its labeling as 15 or more headache days per month with headaches lasting at least four hours. It is not an acute rescue treatment. Eligibility, insurance coverage and treatment availability require physician review.

Are PRP injections available for pain and joint problems?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made from a patient’s own blood and may be considered for selected musculoskeletal problems. Evidence varies by condition, and PRP is not established as a cure or universally effective treatment. Ask whether PRP is appropriate and available for your diagnosis.
