Muscle disuse can occur when injury, illness or recovery limits normal movement. Emsculpt NEO has an FDA-cleared rehabilitative indication for prevention or retardation of disuse atrophy in specified treatment areas.
Neuromuscular stimulation may be considered as an adjunct for muscle re-education, maintaining or increasing range of motion, and rehabilitation-related function goals.
Its cleared neuromuscular indications include relaxation of muscle spasms. Pain may have many causes; it requires clinical assessment, and Emsculpt NEO is not presented here as a stand-alone treatment for chronic pain or injury.
Dr. Retodo evaluates the nature of the injury, muscle function, medical history and any implanted devices or other contraindications before recommending an adjunctive treatment. Outcomes vary. Treatment does not replace rehabilitation exercises or other medically indicated care.
The manufacturer's October 2024 announcement described FDA clearance for neuromuscular stimulation for rehabilitative use in the arms or legs. Claims depend on the device model, applicator and cleared labeling. Please confirm treatment availability and suitability when scheduling.
